Happy Feet!

Since Jackie Buchanan, P.E. Teacher at Challenger Intermediate School, has implemented Interactive Heart Rate Monitors into her classroom, the students now pay attention to when they are not in motion. To keep their heart rate up they start jogging in place and call it ‘Happy Feet’.

A group of sixth graders sat down and shared their excitement for the monitors. Some were thrilled to see a name brand other said it is simply fun to use technology in P.E., all of them said it makes them work harder and more schools should get them.

Craig Ryan, Principal at Challenger Intermediate School, sent out a challenge to teachers at Challenger to think outside the box and reach out to the Goddard Education Foundation for a grant to do something new in their classroom. He said, “Jackie Buchanan embraced the challenge from day 1, she spent the time and made it great and is empowering students to understand their health. Students have responded tremendously.”

“I even think about the monitors at home and I get super pumped to come back to school to use them again!”

Sixth Grade Student Without help from the Goddard Education Foundation, Jackie Buchanan would have only been able to purchase part of the set-up that she needed to ensure all the students in one class could participate. She was grateful to partner with the Foundation to impact the 450 students she serves a school year.  She is excited to have longer class periods next year to see the extent of what the monitors can do.

Thank you to everyone who has given to the Goddard Education Foundation.

Your gifts impact the lives of our students each and every day!
