“Chapter Books for Champions”

booksbooksbooks

Most second graders arrive in august ready to read. They are excited about school and excited about learning. However not every child learns to read at the same rate, we must meet them where they are and provide meaningful experiences for students based on their need.

Each year I enjoy introducing my students to chapter books. Few second graders have read chapter books and they all feel a sense of accomplishment when they begin to read more independently. My main objective is to instill a love of reading in all of my students while increasing reading comprehension. Hopefully, the students will go on to higher grade levels with an interest in reading a book, not only for learning but for enjoyment, as well. The book study companions can be used in teaching comprehension skills, phonics, vocabulary, and writing.
